Newsletter 6 July 2018

Dear Parents and Carers

I’m sure you will agree it has been an exciting few weeks at Palm Bay. As we didn’t have a newsletter last week, I bring you two weeks of news…

On 26th June I had the pleasure of attending the Thanet Primary Schools Sports Awards evening where Palm Bay was represented by two of our year 6 pupils, Erin C and Jake B. It was an exciting evening and we got to meet John Regis, the Olympic gold-winning athlete who still holds the record for the 200m sprint that he set in 1994. Our Key stage 2 Sports Day was a great success with a good turnout from our parents and car-ers.

Last Friday the children enjoyed a motivational assembly from a company called NED, which stands for ‘Never give up, Encourage others, Do your best’. The children learned about Growth Mindset and the importance of trying their best, overcoming obstacles and persevering.

We have had a very musical week, enjoying both the KS1 Signing Picnic and the Year 3 and 4 Summer Concert. The picnic was lovely and we all en-joyed Year 2’s pirate-themed songs and Year 1’s Brazillian Samba extrava-ganza. The Year 3 and 4 concert was bigger and better this year and I am sure you all shared the pride I felt at seeing so many wonderful perfor-mances including vocal, ensemble and instrumental pieces, as well as origi-nal composition and choreography. Thank you all for coming along and showing your support and huge thanks to Miss Sirota and Mrs Tong for organising these events. Today Year 5 are enjoying a Kidenza Orchestra trip at Chatham and Clarenden Grammar School and more music and drama awaits us next week with the Year 6 Production of Ali Baba and the Bongo Bandits, Thursday evening at 6.00pm.

Yesterday was our transition day and the children all visited their new classroom, teacher and teaching assistants. Don’t worry if you didn’t have a chance to meet your child’s new teacher as we will be holding ‘Meet the teacher’ sessions early in September. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce two new teachers who are joining our team this year: Miss O’Carroll will be teaching Sparrows class in Year 1 and Miss Connolly will be the new teacher for Sparrowhawks in Year 6.

Don’t forget we have another Boot Fair this Sunday – please do come along and show your support, either by volunteering for the PTFA or searching for a bargain. We also very much hope to see you next Friday for our annual PTFA Summer Fair.

Have a lovely weekend

Best wishes,

Miss Williams

Head Teacher
