Newsletter 9 November 2018

Dear Parents and Carers

Apologies for the late release of the newsletter.

Last week we were delighted to have such a great turnout at par-ents evening – thank you to all of you who attended. Parent-teacher consultations are such an important opportunity for the school and family to work closely to support our children. We hope you found your meeting useful, not just in terms of finding out how your child is progressing and their next steps in learning, but also to get to know their new teacher and celebrate your child’s achievements. If you were unable to attend parents’ evening, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible to reschedule an appointment at an alternative time.

Year 5 have been busy rehearsing for their production of A Mid-summer’s Night Dream as part of the ‘Shakespeare in Schools’ festival. They are now onto the dress rehearsal stage and are doing a fantastic job of remembering their lines and clearly projecting their voices. The performance will take place on Tuesday 20th November at 7 pm at The Theatre Royal in Margate and you can buy tickets online http://theatreroyalmargate.com/event/shakespeare-schools-festival-2018/. They are £9.75/£7.75. Group rate: £6.50 (plus booking fees). I hope to see lots of you there to support our young actors and I know it will be a memorable evening.

Year 3 went on their topic-related trip to Grove Ferry on Friday, where they had great fun exploring the river ecosystem and were impeccably behaved – well done Year 3. Year 6 enjoyed their activities for National Parliament Week and their block of Politics lessons has ended with a special assembly where the children gave presentations to their peers about all they had learned.

Our big news for this week is our Art Auction, taking place in the school hall from 6.30-9.30pm on Thursday 15th. We have received a wide range of very high-quality donations from local artists and I hope that parents and carers are able to come and support this exciting event. There are even some artworks by staff, so don’t miss your opportunity to buy something unique in time for Christmas. Even if you don’t want to bid, all are welcome. The evening will be entertaining and fun, and we’re having a bar too! Our Young Arts Leaders will be attending and will talk about the art projects they have benefited from in the last year, funded by last years’ auction.

All the children should have brought home a leaflet about our school book fair which will be running after school Monday – Thursday this week. It will be held in the ICT room from 3.20 to 4.00 each day – please do pop along with your children. On Friday 16th, will be raising money for Children in Need– children can wear spots and stripes and bring a donation for this important cause. The PTFA will be selling hot chocolate after school, also on Friday, and the proceeds will go to charity too.

Best wishes,

Miss Williams

Head Teacher
