Newsletter 3 May 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

We hope you all had a lovely Easter break. We are now well into the summer term with lots of exciting events ahead of us.

Thank you to everyone who attended Mrs Stephen’s Phonics meeting last week – it was good to see so many parents and carers there.

The children’s new topics have started with a bang. Pets at Home visited Year 1 last week with some rabbits and guinea pigs that the children handled and petted for their ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ topic. Year 4 have been making Roman Coins this week and Year 3 have been learning songs about the Stone Age. Children in Year 2 are busy planting vegetables and observing the life cycle of real butterflies for their topic on growing – ‘The Scented Garden’ – and year 5 have begun designing fairground rides for ‘Scream Machine’.

This week Mrs Tong took another class – Year 4 Magpies – to the Turner Contemporary as part of our ‘My Classroom is a Gallery’ art project. We also have some creative successes to share with you – both Grayson and Heath in Year 2 have won art prizes in the past few weeks. Grayson’s painting came first in the Rotary Club Primary art competition age 5-7, whilst Heath’s collage was shortlisted as part of the prestigious Portfolio competition, in association with the Turner Gallery. Well done to both of you!

Year 5 have been preparing for their residential trip to Kingswood next week. I look forward to seeing who has the most ridiculously enormous suitcase when we wave them off on Tuesday morning, and I look forward to seeing how they are getting on when I pop down to visit them on Wednesday- day next week.

This week has also been a successful week in sporting news, with our Year 2 pupils coming third in the Athletics festival and our Year 5/6 Rugby team being awarded the ‘Fair Play Award’ in recognition of their maturity and good sportsmanship – well done to all of you.

Don’t forget that there is a bank holiday on Monday. We hope you enjoy the long weekend and look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.

Miss Williams,

Head Teacher
