Newsletter 7 June 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to our final half term of the year!

On Thursday 23rd May Year 3 were treated to a Stone Age workshop from Living Histories where they enjoyed dressing and participating in a range of Stone Age activities – it was lots of fun and a great way to end their topic!

Thank you very much to all of you who came to our STEAM week celebrations on Friday 24th May. It was an excellent turnout and we hope you enjoyed seeing the children’s feats of engineering. The bar was definitely raised this year with our space-themed week and I’m sure, like me, that you were impressed with the wide array of items the children designed and made, from battery-powered moon buggies to air-propelled rockets. This week, Mrs Page and Mrs Tong took a small group of children along to ‘Primary Engineers’ Project, run by Canterbury Christ Church University, where they entered their moon buggies into a range of competitions and won several accolades. Well done to all our budding engineers! Continuing our STEAM-theme, Year 5 Kestrels attended the STEAM day at Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School yesterday, and Jays class will be going next week, as well as Year 6 attending the Science Jamboree.

This week we welcomed a set of living chickens’ eggs to observe the chicks hatching and growing over the coming fortnight. So far, 2 of the 9 eggs have hatched and we are excited to see how many more we will have by the end of the week. The reception went on a trip to Wingham Wildlife Park yesterday. We were relieved the sun came out for them! The children had a wonderful day and learned about a wide variety of animals and birds. Also this week, our local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) has visited the school and led assemblies for both Reception and Year 1, teaching all about the role of the Police and how to stay safe.

We ended the week with ‘Pyjamarama’ day today, where everyone came to school in their pyjamas, to enjoy reading and to raise money for the very important charity The Book Trust. We had a lovely, comfy day, with many of us spending time in our reading tent, and we are glad to announce that we raised a total of £190.60.

Finally, thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our SRE information session this week, run by Mrs Middleton. We have some exciting opportunities for parents and carers to join their child for a school lunch in the coming weeks, starting next Wednesday with parent lunch for Reception children. We very much hope to see lots of you there.

This Sunday (9th June) is our next Boot Fair, run by our fantastic PTFA. Please come along to show your support, either by selling, buying or volunteering on the day.

Wishing you a lovely weekend.

Miss Williams,

Head Teacher
