Dear Parents and Carers

Wishing you all a happy new year! I hope you all had a relaxing Christmas holiday.

The new term has started positively, with some exciting experiences to launch the children’s new topics. Year 5 enjoyed their Living Histories workshop on life during Egyptian times yesterday and today Year 1 are participating in a Dinosaur workshop!

Next week, we look forward to welcoming our longstanding friend Mr O’Sullivan (WW2 Air Raid Warden). He will be with us for 3 days, leading a range of interactive workshops with Year 6 for their topic ‘A Child’s War’.

This year we are delighted to be able to open up Beach and Forest School to children in every year group. This term 3 classes – Sparrows, Jays and Sandpipers – are enjoying a weekly half-day session of outdoor learning.

As part of our continued commitment to teaching our pupils about the environment and ecological issues, Year 2 have had some special lessons delivered by ‘Bird Wise’, where they have been learning about the importance of local habitats for migratory birds.

Our Artists in Residence are now firmly established within the school and are working on arrange of projects with children in different year groups. In addition to this, one of the artists – Nova Marshall – has started a project with our Young Arts Leaders (YALs) working towards the Turner Contemporary’s Portfolio competition. This year the theme is ‘Places and Spaces’ and the YALs will be exploring and creating some site-specific artworks at Palm Bay.

Thank you to everyone who has attended a Maths Parents’ Workshop so far. Next week on Thursday we are holding the workshops for the parents and carers of pupils in EYFS and KS1 and we look forward to seeing you there.

On Friday next week we will be celebrating ‘Number Day’ and raising money for the NSPCC. Also next week, all our KS2 pupils will be involved in virtual reality workshops delivered by Prime VR.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes, Miss Williams Head Teacher
