Dear parents and carers
Firstly, apologies for the late newsletter. As I’m sure you can imagine, the run up to Christmas is one of our busiest times of year!
We are well and truly getting into the festive spirit and we put our Christmas decorations up today… I have been enjoying learning Christmas songs with my choir of Year 3 and 4 children and hope we are able to perform to you soon.
I would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who came along to support our Art Auction on Friday 22nd. There was a great turnout, with standing room only for the latecomers. We raised a phenomenal £6000 in total, which will all go towards funding further creative opportunities for our children. I must also thank the great many local artists who generously donated their art – over 80 pieces! – for this good cause, as well as the hard work of Mrs Tong who organised the event.
This morning, the children attended a politics assembly on the theme of the upcoming general election, led by Tatton Spiller of ‘Simple Politics’. See if the children can tell you about what they learned and how they will be voting in our mock election at school.
I wanted to tell you about some lovely external feedback we received last week from a Maths specialist, Laurie Jacques, from the organisation ‘Mathematics Mastery’. Laurie has decades of experience of Maths teaching and supporting schools and she spent the morning at Palm Bay to help us evaluate teaching and learning in maths. Laurie visited lesson in every year group and was so impressed by what she saw that she is putting us forward as an exemplary school for maths teaching. As you know, we have been working extremely hard over the last 4 years to improve our approaches in maths, so we were delighted with this praise.
We are looking forward to the PTFA’s Christmas Fair on Friday this week – please do come along to show your support and help us raise money.
Best wishes, Miss Williams Head Teacher
