Dear Parents and Carers

We have had some memorable learning experiences over the past 2 weeks. We were delighted to welcome
back our long-time friend of the school, Mr O’Sullivan, to work with Year 6 for their topic A Child’s
War. The children had great fun dressed as evacuees – thank you all for making such an effort with their
costumes. I am currently teaching a writing group in Year 6 and I can tell how much the workshop has helped
their understanding of life in wartime Britain.

Children in KS2 enjoyed their Virtual Reality day when Prime VR came in to work with them on 22nd
January. Year 4’s VR experience linked to their topic on Mountains while Year 4 went back in time to Ancient
Egypt!

We have had a number of parent and carer workshops this term and it has been lovely to see so many of you
at them. Last week, Mrs Newbold led a series of workshops on attendance. Thank you for engaging so
positively with our inititive to keep attendance above 97%. We are now giving out attendance trophies in our
Friday assemblies and there is a real buzz among the classes who are beating our attendance target.

This week we will hold the last of our Maths parent workshops for the parents of children in Years 5 and 6 –
please sign up if you would like to attend. Next week, on Thursday, Mrs Solly will be running workshops on
Internet Safety. This is a hot topic and I encourage you to come along and find out how you can support your
children to stay safe online. In addition to sharing guidelines for safe internet use at home, Mrs Solly will be
able to answer any questions you may have.

I am very much looking forward to this Friday when I will be accompanying the whole of Year 6 on an exciting
Careers trip to the Broadstairs Campus of East Kent College. Pupils will be participating in a range of
hands-on workshops at the college, including making wooden dice in the carpentry department and making
tasty salads in the catering department.

Last week was National Storytelling week, which we celebrated by inviting family members in to read stories
on Friday. Thank you very much to all the parents, carers and grandparents who came in to read. It was such
a great turnout and the children were delighted to have special guests to read to them.

Best wishes,
Miss Williams
Head Teacher
